Kasganj violence: Prime accused confesses to firing, killing Chandan Gupta

New Delhi : Prime accused in Kasganj violence, Salim, has confessed to firing and killing Chandan Gupta on January 26, claim media reports. The Uttar Pradesh Police nabbed him five days after the incident for killing 22-year-old college student.

The cops have arrested nearly 118 people in connection to the incident where atleast three shops, two buses and a car were torched by angry mob.

Meanwhile, a report by Zee News claims that Salim's brother - Naseem and Waseem - too had fired shots. The duo is still absconding as cops have intensified their search.

Earlier, eyewitnesses said registered their statements claiming that Salim open fired from a roof or balcony during Tiranga Yatra by ABVP and VHP workers on Republic Day.

No reports on fresh violence have come since last Wednesday.

After communal clashes, authorities deployed around 400 jawans of the RAF and the PAC, and rushed eight ASPs, 14 COs and 25 SHOs to bring the situation under control.
