New Delhi : West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday slammed Centre for allegedly trying to control social media company Twitter. She claimed that after failing to influence the micro-blogging website, the Union government is now trying to bulldoze it.

Drawing a parallel, she said that Centre was doing the same with her government as well.

"I condemn it. They (Centre) can't control Twitter, so they are trying to bulldoze it. They are trying to do so with everyone they are unable to manage. They can't control me, and that is why they are trying to bulldoze my government, too," Mamata Banerjee said.

Twitter had lost its legal shield in India for non-compliance to the latest IT rules, which came to effect on May 25. The company had not shared the details of mandatory Chief Compliance Officer.

With this Twitter will now be liable for action under the Indian Penal Code for third party unlawful content.

She also mentioned that the case on Twitter claiming political violence is a gimmick by the government. No such political violence is going on in the state.

"There is no political violence going on in the state right now. There may have been one or two sporadic incidents, but those can't be labelled as incidents of political violence," she said.
