New Delhi : In a shocking incident, a 25-year-old mentaly unstable woman was chained and made to do chores by her family. The resident of Jagityal town of Telangana, the woman was forcibly detained at home by her three brothers and their wives after she allegedly tried to run away. 

The incident took place on Wednesday. According to a report in Mumbai Mirror, the woman's brothers said she had psychiatric disorders for over eleven years. They produced certificates of her treatment.

The police have not registered any case. "We were convinced with the statement given by her mother and brothers and the proof of treatment. But, it is an offence to chain somebody and arresting the movement of a person. We will produce the woman before the court today and seek directions for further course," Jagityal inspector Prakash told the media.

According to police, Chityala Vani was chained by her brothers Narayana, Ramesh and Srinivas, as she left home and was wandering on the road on Wednesday.

Her brothers informed the police that they had sold off their house to meet her treatment costs.

"So far, they had spent Rs 11 lakhs on her treatment as per the bills they produced," the inspector said.
