Mumbai Rains: 2000 stranded rail passengers rescued as roads remain water logged

Mumbai : Nearly 2000 stranded rail passengers on Mumbai bound train due to heavy water logging between Nalasopara and Vasai stations have been rescued by the NDRF and police team.

In a joint operation, passengers of Shatabdi Express and Vadodara Express were rescued successfully, said a Palgarh district official.

Non-stop rains in Mumbai have halted the pace of the city. Local trains which are considered lifeline of Mumbai were seen crawling at a snail speed due to waterlogging on tracks. Several roads were also found heavily waterlogged.

In yet another incident, an Air India plane reportedly overshot runway due to heavy rains. The Boeing 737-800 aircraft stopped 10 feet beyond the end of runway, an Air India spokesperson said.

IMD had previously predicted heavy rains in Mumbai till Thursday. In last 21 days, Mumbai has received over 60 per cent of the season's rainfall.
