New Delhi : On Monday, seventy nine MPs from Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha were suspended amid ongoing protest over security breach in the Parliament last week. Adding those who are already suspended, the total number amounts to nearly 100.

In the number of suspended MPs, a quarter amount is of the Opposition MPs. The list of those suspended includes the Congress' Jairam Ramesh, KC Venugopal, and Randeep Surjewala from the Rajya Sabha. From the Lok Sabha, the Congress' Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, who is also Leader of the Opposition, and Gaurav Gogoi.

Meanwhile, Congress leaders have been quoted as saying that the decision is an example of sheer "arrogance". Some of the other leaders called it "a murder of democracy."

For those who are unaware, the MPs have been suspended for their unruly behaviour. Union Minister Piyush Goyal, who is also the Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, said the opposition lawmakers had conspired to stop Parliament from functioning. "They did not want the House to run," he said.

In a major security breach at the new building of Parliament, two men - Sagar Sharma and Manoranjan D – jumped inside Lok Sabha chamber from the public gallery during Zero Hour, released yellow smoke from canisters and shouted slogans, before being overpowered by the MPs.

At the same time, two other men - Amol Shinde and Neelam Devi – released coloured smoke outside Parliament premises.
