New Delhi : Government of Bihar’s ambitious Organic Corridor initiative — spanning 13 districts along banks of Ganga — is setting a national example of sustainable agricultural practices. Launched in 2020 under the leadership of CM Shri Nitish Kumar, this program is promoting organic farming across thousands of acres, protecting the river’s biodiversity and improving soil health.

As part of initiative, more than 19,594 acres of land are now under organic cultivation by over 20,000 participating farmers. By reducing chemical runoff into Ganga, corridor is helping protect the region’s delicate ecosystem, preserving biodiversity, and providing safer, chemical-free crops for consumers.

This program originally ran from 2020-21 to 2022-23 but was extended to 2025 due to its remarkable success. Farmers cultivating in corridor receive financial support under the scheme — ₹11,500 per acre in first year and ₹6,500 per acre in second and third years — incentivizing sustainable agricultural practices.

Through cluster-based organic farming, the initiative promotes environmentally friendly practices, enhances soil health and fertility, and reduces dependency on harmful agricultural chemicals. The success of the corridor is proving that environmentally conscious agriculture can flourish at scale, serving as a model for nation.
