Over 14000 new coronavirus cases reported in last 24 hours
New Delhi : India has reported a surge in the new coronavirus cases with over 14,000 people testing positive for COVID-19 infection in last 24 hours. The major spike has been registered in two states and 86 per cent of the total new cases belong to five states.
According to official data on ministry's website, Maharashtra reported 6,971, followed by Kerala (4,070), Tamil Nadu (452), Karnataka (413), and Punjab (348).
Centre has termed Maharashtra, Kerala and Punjab as "concerned states."
83 deaths have also been reported in the same time duration. Maharastra (35), Kerala (15), Punjab (6), Chhattisgarh (5), and MP (4).
On Sunday, the government had written to the five states asking them to implement some restrictions to keep situation under control. While India’s cumulative positivity rate stood at 5.20 per cent on Sunday, the Health Ministry said that the country’s national average weekly positivity rate was 1.79 per cent.
New rules in Maharashtra have been announced, including complete sealing of a building if more than five coronavirus cases are reported in it.
