Mumbai : Things are getting murkier for Maharashtra with every passing day, in a latest development, more than 200 students and staffers tested positive for coronavirus in a single hostel of a school in Washim district. 

According to ANI, 229 students and 3 staffers of a hostel in Washim tested positive for COVID-19. 327 students reside in the hostel and comes from various places like Amravati, Hingoli, Nanded, Washim, Buldhana and Akola.

The authorities have declared the hostel as containment zone.

On Wednesday, Maharashtra reported another surge in the number of coronavirus cases. Around 8,000 new coronavirus cases have been registered in less than 24 hours.

With 80 deaths reported on Wednesday, the state’s fatality count rose to 51,937, the government said. The state has so far reported a total of 21,21,119 COVID-19 cases, as per official figures.

Meanwhile, CM Uddhav Thackeray has warned people to strictly follow the coronavirus guidelines and if people do not follow the instructions then a complete lockdown will be imposed in the state to stop spread of the virus.

All religious, social and political gatherings have been prohibited in the state in view of the rising COVID-19 cases in the state.
