Passenger train reaches wrong destination, probe ordered

New Delhi : In a 'rare case', a New Delhi-bound passenger train ended up reaching a wrong station in the national capital on Tuesday; the authorities have sacked one employee and ordered the probe in the case.

Passenger train 64464 from Panipat was supposed to reach New Delhi station at 7:30 am, but it was found travelling on a different route to end its journey at Old Delhi station at 7:50 am.

"On realising the mistake, the train was immediately sent back to the New Delhi station," a Northern Railway statement said. "The Log (panel) operator has been suspended and an inquiry has been initiated to find and fix responsibility of other erring staff," the statement added, PTI reported.

The authorities termed it an incident of miscommunication by the log operator. They said that a staffer mistook the train with another one which was running late and was scheduled to reach Old Delhi station from Sonipat.

One person has been sacked from the job for the incident, while a detailed probe has also been initiated in the matter.
