PM Narendra Modi, Donald Trump discuss fair trade over call

New Delhi : Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday spoke to US President Donald Trump pledging to work for global peace prosperity and security. This came amid threats to hike tarrifs on imports from India and other parts of the world. PM Modi, in a social media post, mentioned that both the nations are committed to a mutually beneficial and trusted partnership.
This was the first time when Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke with the US President Donald Trump since his comeback to the power on January 20. It is expected that ties between the nations over defence, technology, counterterrorism, energy and space are expected to flourish in coming days under Trump administration.
According to an official statement released by the White House, Donald Trump has emphasized on the importance of India to increase the procurement of American-made security equipment. The leaders also discussed plans for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the White House.
“Delighted to speak with my dear friend President Donald Trump. Congratulated him on his historic second term. We are committed to a mutually beneficial and trusted partnership. We will work together for the welfare of our people and towards global peace, prosperity and security,’’ said Modi in a post on X on Monday evening.
Apart from discussing key sectors for bilateral trade, the two leaders also talked about global issues including the situation in West Asia and Ukraine. The two leaders can meet during the AI summit that France will host next month.
