PM Narendra Modi extends lockdown till May 3, relaxations after April 20
New Delhi : Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday addressed the nation to announce the extension of lockdown to contain the spread of coronavirus in India.
During his 25-minute long address, he announced that the lockdown will be extended till May 3, 2020. PM Modi also mentioned that there will be a strict screening of areas till April 20, after which some of the essential services will be resumed to ensure movement of economy.
He also urged people to follow the restrictions and guidelines mandatorily to beat the coronavirus and claimed that so far India has managed to do well as it stays way ahead in the fight as compared to other nations.
PM Modi also highlighted how prepared is India to fight unforeseen circumstances. He said that according to the analysed data it has been learned that around 1500 beds are required for 10,000 coronavirus positive patients. In India, when we have touched the mark we have 100,000 beds and hospitals ready on standby to take care of the patients.
"India has sufficient amount of essential goods and items and the government is also taking care of maintaining the supply chain. So people must not panic and follow the guidelines," PM Modi said during his address.
Earlier, PM Narendra Modi had announced a 21-day lockdown on March 24 to break the chain of spreading coronavirus in India.
