Chennai : Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday handed over Arjun tank to Indian Army in Chennai. PM arrived to launch a number of government programmes in the state, where assembly elections will be held this year.

The Arjun tank has been completely designed and manufactured in India by Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO).

Recently, Defence Ministry had given green signal to the induction of 118 Arjun battle tanks into the Indian Army at a cost of Rs 8400 crores.

Post that, PM Modi launched a 9-km long Chennai MetroRail project along with two other railway projects and laid the foundation stone of Discovery Campus of IIT, Madras that is expected to cost Rs 1,000 crore.

The assembly elections will be held in the end of 2021; on January 30, BJP chief JP Nadda had announced that BJP will be contesting the elections in alliance with AIADMK.
