Press Freedom Under Threat: Accredited Journalists Association Strongly Condemns FIR Against Veteran Journalist Ajit Anjum

New Delhi : The Accredited Journalists Association (Regd.) has expressed deep concern and strong resentment over the FIR registered against veteran journalist Ajit Anjum in Bihar. The association has termed this action as a direct assault on the fourth pillar of democracy.
Ajit Anjum, the Editor-in-Chief of AAA Media News Channel, had recently exposed irregularities at the BLO level during the voter list revision campaign in Bihar. His fact-based and courageous reporting led to an FIR being filed against him, which the journalist community has strongly condemned as a “repressive act” aimed at silencing voices of truth.
Strong Statement by Association President Vijay Shankar Chaturvedi
President of the Accredited Journalists Association, Vijay Shankar Chaturvedi, released a strong statement in support of Anjum. He said,
“Ajit Anjum is a symbol of fearless, truthful, and unbiased journalism. Filing an FIR against him is nothing short of an attack on press freedom. This action by the authorities is not only condemnable but also sets a dangerous precedent.”
Chaturvedi further emphasized that in a democracy, an independent media plays a crucial role in ensuring government accountability. He warned that punishing journalists for exposing the truth will not only undermine press freedom but will also infringe upon the rights of citizens.
Three Demands for the Protection of Press Freedom
The association has placed three key demands before the Bihar administration:
* A fair and impartial investigation into the FIR filed against Ajit Anjum, to uphold the dignity of the journalist.
* An immediate end to the intimidation and harassment of journalists who are simply doing their duty.
* Strong safeguards to protect freedom of the press and freedom of expression in all forms.
Journalism Is Not a Crime
The association has made it clear that it stands firmly with brave journalists like Ajit Anjum.
“We support every journalist who dares to speak the truth. As watchdogs of democracy, we will not bow down to any pressure,” the association declared.
Calling for collective resistance, the association has urged all journalists and media institutions to unite and raise their voice against such repressive acts.
“This is not just about one FIR — it’s a question on the very soul of journalism. In a society where journalists are punished for telling the truth, democratic values are at serious risk. Now is the time for unity, courage, and a firm stand to protect the freedom of the press.”
