New Delhi : On July 26, the opposing party initiated a motion of no-confidence against the government led by Prime Minister Modi. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla presided over the consideration of this motion.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh announced on Wednesday that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to be present in the Lok Sabha on August 10. During this session, he will provide a response to the no-confidence motion presented by the Opposition against the NDA government.

"The PM will be present in the House tomorrow to reply to the no-confidence motion," the Union minister told the Lower House.

It must be noted that PM Modi's government has no threat of losing the power as his Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its allies have a majority in the Lok Sabha.

At any given time, a member of the Lok Sabha, with the backing of 50 fellow colleagues, possesses the ability to initiate a motion of no-confidence against the Council of Ministers.

Thereafter a discussion on the no-confidence motion takes place. MPs in favor of the motion accentuate the government's deficiencies, and the Treasury Benches offer their responses to the raised concerns. Ultimately, a vote is conducted, and if the motion attains success, the government is compelled to relinquish their position.

However, the NDA boasts an impressive majority, commanding a total of 331 MPs, out of which the BJP accounts for 303 MPs. In contrast, the combined strength of the opposition coalition I.N.D.I.A. stands at 144. The Lower House also includes 70 MPs from unaligned parties.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is encountering a no-confidence motion for the second time. The initial motion of this nature against the Modi administration was presented in 2018, centering around the bestowal of a special category status to Andhra Pradesh, but it was subsequently voted down.

Nonetheless, the discussion on the current motion took place on both August 8 and August 9.
