Rajya Sabha MP Amar Singh dies at 64, condolences pour in

New Delhi : Rajya Sabha MP and former Samajwadi Party leader Amar Singh passed away on August 1st. He was 64. Singh was ill for a very long time and was undergoing treatment in a Singapore hospital.

He is survived by wife Pankaja and twin daughters.

Earlier, Singh had suffered kidney failure in 2013. Today, Singh had tweeted a tribute to freedom fighter and educationist Bal Gangadhar Tilak on his death anniversary and also wished Eid Al Adha to all his followers.

Singh had also posted a short video message on March 22 on Twitter from the hospital. In the video, he made an appeal to all his followers to support Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the fight against coronavirus. And on March 2, he had posted a video message to end rumours that claimed that he was dead.

“Tiger Zinda Hai,” he had written in his short message posted along with the video.

Amar Singh was the general secretary of the Samajwadi Party and a member of the Rajya Sabha. On January 2010, he resigned from all the posts of the Samajwadi Party and was later expelled by chief Mulayam Singh Yadav on February 2, 2010.
