Salman Rushdie stabbed in neck; condition critical in hospital

New Delhi : Salman Rushdie has been stabbed in neck during a lecture in New York state, he was airlifted to a hospital. As per latest reports, his condition is critical and has been put on ventilator support.

After surgery, he was shifted to ventilator and was unable to speak. The attack has been condemned by majority of writers and politicians across the world.

According to a statement by his book agent, he is likely to lose an eye. His lever has also been reportedly damaged in the attack.

The attacker has also been detained by the police. The motive behind the attack is also being investigated by the cops.

"A man jumped up on the stage from I don't know where and started what looked like beating him on the chest, repeated fist strokes into his chest and neck," a witness said.

Rushdie had received death threats for his writing a book.
