New Delhi : Following a clash between protesting wrestlers and police personnel at Jantar Mantar, the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) chairperson, Swati Maliwal, met with the wrestlers on Thursday. Maliwal assured them that the DCW would take appropriate action based on the complaints they had filed.

According to Swati Maliwal, the wrestlers informed her that they were subjected to misconduct by some intoxicated Delhi Police officers. These wrestlers have been engaged in a sit-in protest at Jantar Mantar since April 23, accusing Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) president and a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP, of sexual harassment.

Prior to the meeting, Swati Maliwal claimed that she was denied access to the protest site to meet the wrestlers. In a video shared on her official Twitter account, Maliwal can be seen asserting her constitutional position to the policemen and expressing her desire to meet the protesters. She expressed deep concerns for the safety of the wrestlers.

In a Hindi tweet, Swati Maliwal stated, "I am currently present alongside the protesting wrestlers at Jantar Mantar. They have informed me that last night, some intoxicated police personnel misbehaved with them and physically assaulted them. The Delhi Commission for Women will take necessary action based on their written complaints."

On Wednesday night, a confrontation erupted between protesting wrestlers and a group of police personnel at Jantar Mantar, resulting in head injuries for a few demonstrators. The wrestlers claimed that they were subjected to physical mistreatment by the police. Among those harmed, two wrestlers named Rahul Yadav and Dushyant Phogat were identified by the protesters.
