New Delhi : Two days after the Central government announced a tax cut on the prices of petrol and diesel to make it more affordable for common man, a couple of states have further reduced the VAT on it to provide further relief.

Maharashtra, Rajasthan and Kerala are the three states which have announced more relaxation in taxes to bring down the petrol and diesel prices.

Maharashtra cut down VAT by Rs 2.08 and Rs 1.44 per liter on petrol and diesel respectively. Rajasthan slashed Rs 2.48 and Rs 1.16 from VAT on petrol and diesel respectively. Kerala provided relief of Rs 2.41 and Rs 1.36 per liter on the petrol and diesel.

Meanwhile, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Sunday said that the burden of over Rs 2 lakh crores due to the tax cut will be borne by the Central government.

Her statement came after the Opposition leaders alleged that the tax cut by center will create extra pressure on the states.
