Dehradun : Tirath Singh on Wednesday sworn in as the new Chief Minister of Uttarakhand for remaining tenure of the current assembly session; Trivendra Singh Rawat had resigned from the post on Tuesday.

56-year-old Tirath Singh Rawat is a BJP MP from Pauri constituency in the state. His name has been selected over the prominent names like Union Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank and Uttarakhand Minister Dhan Singh Rawat.

According to a news report, it has been learned that his name received an express approval from PM Narendra Modi.

Shortly after Tirath Singh Rawat took oath, Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted: "Congratulations to Shri @TIRATHSRAWAT on taking oath as the Chief Minister of Uttarakhand. He brings with him vast administrative and organisational experience. I am confident under his leadership the state will continue to scale new heights of progress. (sic)"

Trivendra Singh Rawat submitted his resignation on Tuesday after speculations of leadership change and allegations that the BJP was not happy with his performance in the state. Now, Tirath Singh Rawat has a task set for him to setup a platform for BJP before they face elections in the state after one year.
