Los Angeles : In two shocking incidents in India, babies born with defects have left their families traumatised and under continued neighbours and media scrutiny.

In one such incident a baby born with four legs and two male sex organs at a Karnataka hospital in India has been a shocker to the family.

However, baby’s mother, Lalitamma, 23, later described her son as ‘God’s gift’ and added that she was reluctant for him to be taken to another hospital for further treatment.

She mentioned, “I am prepared to raise my son the way he is. My first son, born three years ago, is healthy. We are poor and cannot afford expensive treatment. I spoke to the surgeons there on Sunday, and they told me that the baby was being kept under observation. I hope the baby becomes normal.”

In a normal delivery, the baby was born at 4.23 am on Saturday to parents Lalitamma and Chennabasava.

Dr Virupaksha, who helped deliver the baby, told media that he has referred the family to Vijayanagara Institute of Medical Sciences (VIMS).

“A team of surgeons is looking into the baby’s condition. It is a very challenging case for us,” he added.

In another such incident in Bihar, another 28-year-old mother was left “traumatised” by the birth of the little girl who emerged with thick white skin, red eyes and inverted lips.

The condition is described as "Harlequin". Notably, the birth comes just months after another baby was also born in India, believed to be the first case in the country, which saw the little girl die after just two days.

The birth of the baby has sent shockwaves across the city in which she was born.
