New Delhi : Three persons, including an IGNOU student, have been arrested here for making forged birth certificates outside the East Delhi Municipal Corp office, police said on Thursday.

Rajeev Kumar, Anupan and Karan, a student of the Indira Gandhi National Open University, were arrested on Wednesday from Tughlakabad and Shahdara in Delhi.

A Special Investigation Unit (SIU) team headed by Assistant Commissioner of Police Sandeep Lamba and Inspector Upendra Kumar Singh busted the gang and seized 46 fake birth certificates, Additional Commissioner of Police Rajiv Ranjan said.

The forged birth certificates were printed for Rs 1,500 to Rs 2,000 each, Ranjan said.

A victim complained to the Crime Branch on Monday about the forged certificates, following which a decoy customer was sent to a shop at Tughlakabad Extension to get a Birth Certificate, he said.

During interrogation, the accused disclosed that they were working to prepare fake documents like birth certificate, Aadhaar card and ration card.
