New Delhi : The South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) on Monday launched nearly half a dozen ‘Atal Jan Aahaar Kendra’ centres in the national capital. The centres will be selling nutritious lunch for a cost of just Rs 10 per plate.

South Delhi Mayor Kamaljeet Sehrawat along with Chairman of the civic body’s Standing Committee Bhupender Gupta and Leader of Opposition Ramesh Matiala launched the scheme from Matiala Chowk under Najafgarh Zoneon, on the occasion of former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s 93rd birthday.

The ‘Atal Jan Aahaar Kendra’ centres will operate from 11 AM in the morning to 2 pm in the afternoon and will be serving dishes like puri-sabzi, chapattis, rice, rajma, vegetables, chhole and halwa.

“An important promise made in the election manifesto is being fulfilled on the Good Governance Day celebrated on the birth anniversary of former prime minister Atal Behari Vajpayee. The scheme is being implemented in a phased manner. It will be expanded to add more centres and distribution timings will be extended to include dinner as well,” South Delhi Mayor Kamaljeet Sehrawat said.
