New Delhi : Our home is our own personal space and it's important that we feel safe and comfortable inside our homes but sometimes it becomes difficult to find peace at home because of all the noise around us. Most of us living in metro cities find it difficult to get some peace and quiet in our homes because of all the traffic, You cannot really expect the world to just shut down or stop so you can have some peace. Moreover, there are times when our voice too travels outside and no one feels comfortable in sharing their personal lives with those around them who might end up eavesdropping unintentionally. In such cases, it's best to find a way to soundproof your home. We can't stop the world but we can stop the noise from coming in and protect our privacy at the same time. Many people also find it difficult to sleep with all that noise around them and this can be resolved with some simple tricks which can soundproof your personal space. Here are some tips to find your peace and quiet.

1. The gaps under your door can allow the sound to travel in and out. Take a look at your door and if there is empty space under it, fill the gaps with a draft stopper. You can buy a readymade draft stopper or make on at home.

2. If your door is hollow, it may be the reason why sound can travel. Replace your door with a heavy door which can block the sound. You can also consult an interior decorator or the shopkeeper when buying a door and get a proper soundproof door.

3. The shared wall with the neighbours can be the sole cause of the noise around you. Block the noise by rearranging your house and move the furniture against the shared wall. You can also use a heavy bookshelf filled with books and put it against the wall to block the sound.

4. Soundproof curtains or heavy curtains can also work wonders to blocking noise. Don't think before spending a little on curtains that can reduce the noise and give you some privacy and comfort. You can also use carpets and rugs in your home. A big thick rug can also block our some noises.

5. If there are any gaps or cracks in your windows, get them fixed immediately. You can also replace them if required. If you have a big vent with holes, chances are that that is why you end up in a noisy home, cover it up with some wooden plank, window insert or put up furniture against it.

6. You can also cover and cushion your walls with a rug or a rubber mat. This can prevent noise reflection and soundproof your home. Insulating your ceiling and walls can also work wonders.
