Dengue in Delhi: Seven-year-old dies at RML Hospital

Delhi : A seven-year-old boy has succumbed to dengue, two days after he was admitted to the Ram Monohar Lohia (RML) Hospital here, hospital authorities said.

Shaurya Pratap Singh was initially admitted to Gurugram's Medanta Hospital where he was confirmed to be suffering from dengue. He was kept on ventilator for 15 days as his condition was extremely critical.

Shaurya was shifted to the RML Hospital on November 20 where his condition deteriorated.

"After the patient was admitted to RML, his body infections increased. There was only 5 per cent chances of his survival which also reduced gradually. He died on November 22 at 5.30 p.m," a hospital official told IANS.

A 12-year-old boy was the season's first victim to succumb to dengue in Delhi's Sir Ganga Ram Hospital on August 1.

Three more deaths occurred after that. But according to government officials, they were not residents of Delhi.

Delhi has so far witnessed 4,556 dengue cases. Areas under North Delhi Municipal Corporation have witnessed the highest number (700), followed by South Delhi Municipal Corporation (698) and East Delhi Municipal Corporation (398).

Areas adjoining Delhi have seen 4,340 dengue cases, which were either treated or were being treated in Delhi hospitals.

Delhi has also witnessed 541 chikungunya cases this year but no deaths.
