New Delhi : Vaccination for teens under the age group of 15-18 years has begun from today (January 3, 2022) amid surge in coronavirus cases in several states. More than 8 lakh teens have registered on CoWin application for the vaccine.

Currently, dose of covaxin will be administered in India.

The vaccination program is being carried out in consultation with schools. A large number of schools and other educational institutions are being used as centers to administer the vaccine.

Those born in 2007 and before are eligible for the vaccine.

The Union Health Ministry has said only Covaxin will be administered to teens and additional doses of the vaccine will be sent to all states and Union Territories.

On December 25, the Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced that the vaccines for the age group of 15-18 will begin in India from January 3 onwards.

The administration of a third dose of vaccine for health workers, frontline workers and vulnerable senior citizens will begin from January 10.
