Odisha : The Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Wednesday announced that all four gates of the famous Jagannath Temple will remain open for devotees from Thursday morning. The announcement comes soon after the first Cabinet meeting of the new BJP government was held.

Speaking to the journalists, the CM said that gates – Simhadwara (Lion Gate), Ashwadwara (Horse Gate), Vyaghradwara (Tiger Gate), Hastidwara (Elephant Gate) – located on the four sides of the temple will be opened in the presence of all ministers.

The gates were closed during covid pandemic Later, the devotees were allowed to enter the temple via Simhadwara gate. The other gates were remained closed leading to huge congestion and long queues for devotees.

It is worth mentioning that opening of all four gates was among one of the promises made during the election pitch by Bharatiya Janta Party.

Talking about the other key decisions taken during the Cabinet meeting, the Odisha Chief Minister said there will be an establishment of Rs 500 crore corpus fund for Shri Jagannath Temple, which will be used for the upliftment and development of the area.

The cabinet also approved a new policy for farmers, setting a minimum support price (MSP) for paddy at ₹3100 per quintal, to be implemented within the next 100 days. Another notable initiative, the Subhadra Yojana, will provide cash vouchers of ₹50,000 to each woman, with directives given to the concerned department to roll out this program in the same timeframe.
