New Delhi : Since the time India has been dealing with COVID-19, we've come across people suggesting some absolutely bizarre cures to treat coronavirus and protect oneself from the highly contagious virus. From alcohol to cow urine to home remedies with no scientific evidence to support those claims. Fake news and Whatsapp forwards have become even more rampant, making it difficult for people to tell the difference between what is real and what isn't.

Just hours after Baba Ramdev's Patanjali Ayurveda Limited launched the corona kit, better known as coronil, which claims to cure COVID-19, the ministry of AYUSH took cognisance of the information and refused to back Patanjali. Baba Ramdev's Patanjali Ayurveda may have gotten permission for the trials from the concerned authorities but it failed to garner support from the government as well as the Ministry of AYUSH who have now distanced themselves from the cure claims and asked Patanjali to share the details of the components of the medicine and the clinical research with the ministry.

They have also asked Patanjali to stop advertising the claims till the details are examined and their claims are verified. Baba Ramdev's Patanjali has also been informed that making such advertisements and claims about ayurvedic medicine without adequate evidence is regulated under the provisions of Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act, 1954.

The State Licensing Authority of Uttrakhand to look into the details and share the copies and details of the license and product approval details of the coronil medicine. The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) also does not have any information with regards to the cure claims and the composition of the medicine. ICMR claims that they are not the concerned authority for ayurvedic medicines in India and AYUSH is and has refused to associate with the medicine. While Patanjali may have used the ingredients that have been approved and suggest by AYUSH as anti-viral and immunity boosters for the medicine, they did make a big mistake while launching the medicine.

Baba Ramdev's Patanjali managed to spread a word and have a public launch of the medicine that they claim can cure this strain of coronavirus without having adequate scientific evidence to support their claims and this may have broken a lot of hearts and killed the hope that was budding the hearts of all the people across the country who believed in Patanjali!
