New Delhi : Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi or Eid-e-Milad will be celebrated on Wednesday (November 21, 2018) in India.  The day is dedicated to Prophet Mohammad and his teachings.

As mentioned by the legendary people, Prophet Mohammad was born on the twelfth day of Rabee-ul-Awwal in Mecca in 570 CE. This year, Milad will start from the evening of November 20 and will continue till November 21.

On this day, hymns are sung in praise of the Prophet and it is also commonly believed that listening to those will make one receive worldly and heavenly rewards. However, the day is marked differently by the Shia and Sunni. 

The Shia community believes that on this day Prophet Muhammad had chosen Hazrat Ali as his successor. On the other hand, the Sunni community, on this day, hold pray meetings throughout the day.

People in different parts of the world celebrate it by large processions and by decorating their homes. Prayers and sweets are offered throughout the day with stories on Prophet.

It is considered an important day for Muslims all across the globe because it reminds one of the kindness, compassion and the teachings of the holy Prophet. His devotees observe his birthday and show their reverence and love towards him.
