New Delhi : On March 8, the world celebrates International Women's Day every year to mark the achievements of women and their existence in shaping up the world. It holds a much bigger significance than just attaching the important achievements of women on the day.

When it started and the history?

The idea started way back in 1906 when a socialist party of America first held National Women's Day on February 28. Inspired by it, the Germans initiated the idea of women's day in 1910. The official recognition came by the United Nations in 1975; and International Women's Day was announced on March 8, 1977. Since then, the day has been celebrated every year.

Significance of International Women's Day

International Women's Day is celebrated to mark the achievements of women across the globe and also raise awareness about women’s equality and accelerate gender parity. In most parts of the world, a holiday is observed on the day.

The theme of International Women's Day in 2022

Every year there is a new theme that is attached to the day. In 2022, the theme has been set as 'Gender Equality Today for a Sustainable Tomorrow'.

Companies and organizations across the world hold different events to make the day special for their women employees.
