New Delhi : Temple authorities in Uttarakhand have imposed a strict ban on the entry of women to the premises if they have not covered 80 per cent of their body. The authorities have asked the devotees – both men and women – to dress properly before visiting the temples.

"Only women who have their bodies covered up to 80 per cent can enter these temples," Mahant Ravindra Puri, secretary of the Mahanirvani Panchayati Akhara was quoted as saying in a media report.

The ban comes to effect on immediate basis.

The reason behind imposing the ban has been noted as often people dress inappropriately and it makes the other devotees uncomfortable. The decision has been taken after a lot of complaints were raised by the devotees to the committee.

People who will not adhere to the guidelines will be liable to pay fines and also strict action will be proceeded against them.
