Budget 2022: E passports with embedded chips to be rolled out in 2022-23

New Delhi : Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Tuesday announced during the budget presentation that e-Passports will be rolled out in the year 2022-23 for making travel more convenient for the people.

The e-Passports will be embedded by chips and futuristic technologies, she noted.

Currently, passports are issued in form of a booklet.

The e-passport is expected to facilitate smooth passage through immigration posts globally and provide more security as it hinges on biometric data.
