Railways hikes price for food, tea on Rajdhani, Shatabdi and Duronto trains

New Delhi : Indian Railways has hiked the prices for tea, food and other meals on Rahdhani, Shatabdi and Duronto trains.

Announcing the hike, IRCTC said, "Ministry of Railways dated 14th November has revised the Menu and Tariff of Catering Services on Rajdhani / Shatabdi /Duronto and Standard Meals on Indian Railways."

According to the circular, issued by the director (tourism and catering) of the Railway Board, the prepaid meal prices on the trains will go up significantly.

The circular issued by the Ministry of Railways said rail catering services prices have been hiked keeping in consideration the requests received from IRCTC and the recommendation of the menu and tariff committee set up by the board.

As mentioned in the circular, the tea will cost Rs 35 per cup in the First Class coach of Rajdhani, Shatabdi and Duronto trains. A cup of tea in sleeper class of Duronto trains will cost ₹15. After the new rates are applicable, a cup of tea will cost ₹20 in second AC, third AC of Duronto, Rajdhani and Shatabdi trains.

The breakfast in the trains will now cost ₹140 and ₹105 in AC first and AC second, AC third of Rajdhani, Shatabdi and Duronto trains, respectively. For lunch and dinner, a price of ₹245 in AC first and ₹185 in AC second and third AC of Rajdhani, Shatabdi and Duronto trains will be charged. For evening tea, you will have to shell out ₹140 in AC first and ₹90 in AC second and third of Rajdhani, Shatabdi and Duronto trains.

Passengers travelling in sleeper class of Duronto trains will have to pay ₹65 for breakfast, ₹120 for lunch/dinner and ₹50 for evening tea.

Breakfast (Veg)- ₹40

Breakfast (Non-veg) - ₹50

Standard Meal Veg - ₹80

Standard Meal Non-veg (With Egg Curry)- ₹90
