Over 1.3 lakh Indian to travel to Mars in 2018, Indian ranks third on global list
New Delhi : NASA is preparing for the launch of its much-awaited InSight (Interior Exploration using Seismic Investigations, Geodesy and Heat Transport) mission on May 5, 2018. The organisation has already received over 2 million requests of booking ticket to Mars, out of which more than 1 lakh requests belong to people of India.
Nearly 1,38,899 people have applied from India for traveling to the 'Red planet'. NASA states that online boarding passes have been sent to the shortlisted people.
According to NASA, India ranked third in the global list with regard to the number of names submitted for the Mars mission.
Highest number of people applied from the United States with 6,76,773 followed by China with 2,62,752 names.
The deadline to submit names for the mission ended last week and now NASA is not accepting any further requests.
NASA’s InSight Mission will last for 720 days where it will gather data on the Martian interior by monitoring Marsquakes. Also it will gather broader insight into the formation of rocky planet in the entire solar system.
