The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) may have deliberately stopped printing of Rs 2000 currency denomination or may either be holding it back, says a SBI report.

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) will allow exchange of up to Rs 4,500 in banned Indian currency notes to each Nepali national, a visiting team of the Indian central bank here hinted on Sunday.

In connection with illegal exchange of old currency notes with the new one, CBI on Saturday arrested two RBI senior officials for allegedly converting Rs 1.99 crore of demonetised currency with specified bank notes of Rs 2,000 and Rs 100.

With government deciding not to extend date for using Rs 500 old currency note for certain activities such as paying utility and hospital bills and purchasing cooking gas cylinders, today is the last day to make maximum out of it or there will be only one option left to deposit them in banks on or before December 31, 2016.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced demonetisation of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 on November 8 to stop black marketing in India, but some still managed to dig out some ways to stay in the league. To restrict them several successful raids have been conducted in the mean-time.

In a new development, the government has decided to impose 50 per cent tax on unaccounted cash deposited in bank accounts with old currency; a lock-in period of 4 years will also be imposed on the remaining 50 per cent amount.

In a bid to flush out ‘black money’ from Indian economy, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday barred usage of old currency of Rs 500 and Rs 1000. The whole idea turned into a chaos after gas stations and other retailers refused to accept larger bills on Wednesday, with banks and ATMs closed.
