New Delhi : Cricket Australia on Wednesday handed over one-year ban to Steve Smith and David Warner for their alleged involvement in the ball tampering scandal on the third day of the Cape Town Test against South Africa. 

Cameron Bancroft, the player to actually tamper the ball with a small yellow object has been banned for nine months.

The BCCI has also banned Steve Smith and David Warner from participating in the upcoming season of Indian Premier League.

Steve Smith, David Warner and Cameron Bancroft have the right to challenge their verdicts and also the duration of their penalties via a CA code of behaviour hearing with an independent commissioner.

The official announcement about the development will also be made soon.

Earlier, David Warner has stepped down as captain of the IPL team Sunrisers Hyderabad. The twitter handle of SRH tweeted: “In light of recent events, David Warner has stepped down as captain of SunRisers Hyderabad. The new captain of the Team will be announced shortly. – K Shanmugam, CEO, SunRisers Hyderabad."
