New Delhi : AB de Villiers will not be returning to play for South Africa in the 2021 T20 World Cup, the country's cricket board officially announced on Tuesday.

The former South Africa captain had retired from the international cricket in 2018 and since then there had been a plenty of talks on his return to the international cricket. However, Cricket South Africa (CSA) said that AB de Villiers has decided "once and for all" that his retirement will remain final.

"Discussions with AB de Villiers have concluded with the batsman deciding once and for all, that his retirement will remain final," Cricket South Africa said in its statement.

It must be noted that AB de Villiers may have retired from the South African team, but he is playing for the franchise matches. Recently, he impressed all with his inform batting for Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Indian Premier League.

De Villiers played 114 Tests, 228 ODIs and 78 T20 Internationals (T20Is) for South Africa.
