The Indian Premier League (IPL) governing council on Tuesday decided that the auction for 2017 will take place in Bengaluru in first week of February.

The meeting was attended by BCCI President Anurag Thakur, Secretary Ajay Shirke, IPL Chairman Rajeev Shukla, former India captain Sourav Ganguly, Jharkhand Cricket Association chief Amitabh Choudhary and Punjab Cricket Association President MP Pandove.

IPL Governing Council chairman Rajeev Shukla said, the IPL for 2017 may start from April 5 and auction will happen on February 4.

The board has kept a gap of one wee between the Australia series and IPL.

Last year, the cash-rich league matches were moved out of Maharashtra due to intense drought situation but this year the board will be ready to handle such situation.

"We will have water harvesting technology at stadiums in Maharashtra to counter drought threat in the state," Shukla added.
