New Delhi : Indian batter Shikhar Dhawan on Thursday quashed rumours over his retirement from the cricket, saying that he is working hard to get back in the national team. Meanwhile, he also expressed shock over the news of him being dropped from the Indian squad for the upcoming Asian Games.

The Asian Games schedule is coinciding with the ICC World Cup at home, the 37-year-old batsman was expected to lead the young Indian side at the multisport event in Hangzhou in China. But, BCCI in its announcement on Thursday named Ruturaj Gaikwad as the captain of the side.

It must be noted that Shikhar Dhawan has captained the Indian side on several occasions when the regular captains were not available, a reason why everyone was expecting his name to be announced. Speaking over this, Dhawan in an interview said that I was a bit shocked to not see my name in the Indian squad for Asian Games.

"However, I realized that the selectors have a different perspective, and acceptance is key. I'm pleased that Rutu (Gaikwad) is taking on the leadership role. With the presence of several talented young individuals, I am confident they will excel," Sikhar Dhawan was quoted saying in an interview by PTI.

Shikhar Dhawan's last appearance for the Indian team was in December 2022.
