Ravichandran Ashwin retires from all forms of crickets, finishes second to Anil Kumble in most number of Test wickets
New Delhi : Ravichandran Ashwin has officially announced his retirement from all forms of the international cricket on Wednesday, the final day of the third Test match between India and Australia at Gabba in Brisbane. The match ended in a draw.
His retirement was anticipated soon after images of Virat Kohli giving him a hug during the match had gone viral on social media.
The 38-year-old cricketer announced his retirement accompanied by captain Rohit Sharma during the post-match press conference. "This is my last day as international cricketer. I have created a lot of memories. We are the last bunch of OGs in the dressing room. Lot of people to thank, BCCI, my fellow teammates, all the coaches," Ashwin said.
His retirement comes at a time when India has levelled Border Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) series with Australia at 1-1. India now requires win in both the remaining Test matches to secure their birth at the World Test Championship (WTC) finals for the third consecutive time.
Talking about R Ashwinβs career, he has been one of the greatest spinner of all time. He has finished his career on the second spot after Anil Kumble in the list of most Test wickets by an Indian. Overall, Ashwin played 106 Tests, 116 ODIs, and 65 T20Is for India, taking 765 wickets.
Besides being the bowler he was, Ashwin's has scored a few memorable centuries too in whites. He has 3503 runs and six Test centuries to his name.
