Viacom18 secures BCCI media rights for brodcast on TV and digital platforms

New Delhi : Viacom18 turned out to be the winner of e-auction for BCCI media rights that will allow broadcast of matches held in India from 2023-28 on both Television and Digital platforms. It had to face a tough competition from Star India and Disney Hotstar, who also took part in the e-auction held on Thursday.

The five-year term will begin from September 2023 and conclude in March 2028, featuring a potential total of 102 bilateral matches, up from the initial 88 matches. The schedule includes 25 Test matches, 27 ODIs, and 36 T20Is.

While the matches will be broadcasted live on Television by Sports18, Jio Cinema will take charge of the digital broadcast.

According to reports, Viacom18 will pay Rs 5,966.4cr to the BCCI in the next 5 years for the 88 international home matches.

"Congratulations @viacom18 for winning the @BCCI Media Rights for both linear and digital for the next 5 years. India Cricket will continue to grow in both spaces as after @IPL, and @wplt20, we extend the partnership @BCCI Media Rights as well. Together we will continue to capture the imagination of cricket fans," BCCI secretary Jay Shah tweeted.

"Also, a big thank you to Star India and Disney Plus HS for your support over the years. You played a key role in making India Cricket reach its fans across the globe," Shah added.

The cricket fever has already gripped the nation with ongoing Asia Cup 2023. Team India is all set to take on their arch-rivals Pakistan on September 2, 2023.
