FIFA World Cup 2022: Cristiano Ronaldo in verbal spat with South Korean player
New Delhi : FIFA fever is on and the controversy season is also going along. A new controversy arose on Friday when Cristiano Ronaldo allegedly engage himself in verbal spat with a South Korean player when he was getting substituted during the game. Portugal had to face 2-1 World Cup defeat against South Korea, still managing to reach the Super 16 of the World Cup.
Speaking to reporters after the game, Cristiano Ronaldo said, "It happened when I was substituted. A Korean player was telling me to go off the field quickly and I asked him to stay quiet because it was not his authority to say anything to me."
"If there was a problem with me going slowly of the field, it was referees job to notify me, not the player's," he added.
Meanwhile, Portugal coach Fernando Santos has also said that Cristiano Ronaldo was looking clearly "angry when the incident happened and everyone saw that".
Meanwhile, the Korean player in question Hwang In-beom tried to play down the controversy and said he didn’t even notice.
Both Portugal and South Korea from Group H have managed to reach Super 16 of the FIFA World Cup 2022.
