New Delhi : During the IPL 2023 home game of Kolkata Knight Riders against Chennai Super Kings on Sunday, April 23 at Eden Gardens, the number of yellow shirts was more than the number of purple shirts. People were seen making continuous chants of 'Dhoni, Dhoni' from the moment MS Dhoni arrived in Kolkata until he spoke as the winning captain during the post-match presentation ceremony. While many believed that it is the one last time when Dhoni is playing his game in the Eden Garden, the CSK captain also thanked the crowd for bringing in such support.

Prior to the IPL 2023 season, MS Dhoni had announced his intention to return as the captain of CSK and expressed his gratitude to his fans throughout the country for their unwavering support over the years. Dhoni's decision to continue playing was influenced by the reintroduction of the home-and-away format in the previous season, as he dispelled rumors of retirement.

On Sunday, fans in yellow eagerly awaited the arrival of MS Dhoni and enthusiastically cheered during the high-scoring match. Dhoni and his team did not disappoint as they achieved a resounding victory by 49 runs, setting a record for the highest-ever total at Eden Gardens - 235 - and securing the top spot on the IPL 2023 points table.

In his distinct manner, MS Dhoni expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support by stating, "I simply want to extend my thanks for the tremendous support. A large number of these individuals will be wearing KKR jerseys the next time they come. They appear to be bidding me farewell, so I am extremely appreciative to the crowd." Dhoni's comments kept the fans wondering about his IPL future.

CSK, who have won 5 out of their 7 matches, will next face Rajasthan Royals in Jaipur on April 27.
