Delhi : On WhatsApp, Meta has been experimenting with different strategies to include larger groups of users. In addition to the 'Communities' function, which allows multiple groups with related interests to be combined, it has started to support groups with up to 1,024 individuals. Currently, Meta is working on adding "Channels" to WhatsApp, which will increase the messaging app's accessibility to a wider range of communication.

The first to notice this new functionality, which is being developed for both iOS and Android, was WABetaInfo. Users of Instagram and Telegram who are familiar with the app's Channels will be able to understand how this feature operates because the functionality will be the same.

WhatsApp Channels

Essentially a broadcasting tool, channels can be made on a variety of subjects. Users of WhatsApp who are interested in a particular subject can subscribe to that channel and get updates on that subject. Since Channels will function primarily as a public tool, end-to-end encryption will not be used for communications sent here. According to WABetaInfo, however, this won't have an impact on WhatsApp messages' end-to-end encryption.

On Channels, messages should be restricted to admins and invitees exclusively, much like Instagram. Users can, however, respond and cast ballots in Channel polls. Each Channel has its own invitation as well. This functionality and Telegram Channels, which both function as a tool for public broadcasting, are quite comparable.

Channels on WhatsApp will be found under the 'Status' tab, according to the screenshot provided by WABetaInfo. This tab will now be called "Updates," along with the Status and Channels sections. You can search for various Channels here as well as see everything you've subscribed to.

There is no information on when WhatsApp intends to make Channels available to users because it is currently in development. The feature is still in its early stages because it is not accessible to beta users either.
