IPL 2023: Rinku Singh, Andre Russell guide KKR to 5-wicket win over PBKS
New Delhi : Rinku Singh once again proved himself as the match finisher for the Kolkata Knight Riders as he clinched victory for his side against Punjab Kings with a last-ball boundary at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
2 runs were required from the final delivery and Arshdeep Singh had almost defended 6 runs in the final over, taking the wicket of Andre Russell on the second-last ball but then came Rinku Singh on the strike and just like his previous heroics against Gujarat Titans, he struck the winning runs.
Russell fell short of his half-century, scoring 42 off 23 balls, while Rinku remained unbeaten at 21 off 10 balls, guiding KKR to another triumph.
Earlier, Nitish Rana's 51 off 38 balls and Jason Roy's 38 off 24 balls helped Kolkata Knight Riders achieve a score of 182/5 in response to Punjab's 179/7.
After winning the toss, Punjab skipper Shikhar Dhawan chose to bat first, but Prabhsimran Singh was dismissed in the second over due to Rahmanullah Gurbaz's remarkable catch.
Despite Dhawan's fifty, which was his fiftieth IPL half-century, equalling Virat Kohli's record for the most fifties in the tournament, Punjab only managed to add 21 runs from Jitesh Sharma. Shahrukh Khan and Harpreet Brar, on the other hand, contributed a lot of runs in the final overs to help Punjab reach a total of 179.
But, at the end it was Kolkata Knight Riders who enjoyed the win at the Eden Gardens.
