Delhi Paralympic Committee President Parul Singh Meets Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Discusses Upcoming Para Athletics Championships in India

New Delhi : Parul Singh, President of the Delhi State Paralympic Committee, today met Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh at his residence in New Delhi, to extend birthday wishes on his 74th birthday and discuss preparations for the upcoming World Para Athletics Championships 2025.
Parul Singh also invited Rajnath Singh to attend the Championships, set for September 27 to October 5, 2025, at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi. With over 1,000 athletes from more than 100 countries competing in 186 medal events, the event will be India’s biggest para-sports gathering to date. Rajnath Singh confirmed he would attend and promised that the Ministry of Defence, along with its healthcare programs, would provide funding and resources to support the Championships.
Rajnath Singh praised Parul Singh’s leadership, noting her dedication in spearheading the Delhi Paralympic Committee’s efforts to make the Championships a milestone for Indian para-sports. He assured that the Ministry of Defence stands ready to assist the Indian government in any capacity needed for the event, commending Singh’s hard work in building a robust team and fostering inclusivity in sports.
“I am deeply honored by the Defence Minister’s support and encouragement,” said Parul Singh. “His commitment to the World Para Athletics Championships reflects a shared vision to empower para-athletes and create a lasting impact on India’s sporting landscape. This is a proud moment for our team and for the nation.”
The meeting builds on Singh’s ongoing efforts to mobilize nationwide support for the Championships. On July 7, 2025, she met Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren to promote inter-state participation and presented him with a traditional painting of Lord Rama and Goddess Sita, symbolizing cultural unity.
Rajnath Singh’s endorsement adds significant momentum to these efforts. His assurance of support from the Ministry of Defence, coupled with Singh’s leadership, positions the Championships as a platform not only for sporting excellence but also for fostering inclusivity and national pride. With less than three months remaining, the event promises to be a defining moment for para-sports in India, inspiring millions and paving the way for a more inclusive future.
