Delhi : The market researcher CyberMedia Research, 5G smartphones will be shipped more frequently in India, with a growth rate of 70% annually (CMR). The increase in 5G smartphone shipments is anticipated to occur in 2023 as a result of the larger proliferation of 5G devices, supported by widely used smartphone chips with 5G modems, and the availability of 5G connectivity from telecom providers in India. According to other market forecasts, which have also predicted that shipments of 5G smartphones will top 100 million units by the end of 2023, the report is in line with those projections.

India's potential growth for 5G cellphones

"From a measly 4 percent in calendar year (CY) 2020 to a potential of over 45 percent market share in CY2023, 5G smartphones have gone a long way," Menka Kumari, analyst at CMR's Industry Intelligence Group (IIG), said in a statement. In India, about 100 5G smartphone models were launched in CY2022. We expect that by 2023, close to 75 percent (or more) of new handsets sold in India would be 5G-capable."

A Mint report from November 2022 claimed that approximately 67 million 5G cellphones had been shipped to India overall.

According to additional reports, the Indian smartphone market experienced a severe downturn and may experience a 30-percent annual decline in shipments of smartphones in the final three months of the year. If this is true, total smartphone shipments in India last year may have been as low as 70 million units, out of an estimated 160 million smartphones shipped in the nation.

Although the market research firm CMR predicts that this year, 45 percent of all smartphones in India may be 5G devices, a report published by Counterpoint India in December of last year predicted that 5G smartphone shipments may surpass those of 4G devices in 2023 as a result of this year's increased adoption of 5G subscriptions.
