New Delhi : It is popularly said that Facebook and Instagram, though interesting, eat lots of time. Be it you or your children, users of these social media platforms easily get hooked up for hours, delaying other work schedules. So, to help people manage their time spend on social media, the developers has launched a set of ‘new time limit control tools’.

An official statement by Facebook which owned both the social media giants announced "new tools to help people manage their time" spent on the platforms.

The newly launched tools are a way to limit notifications, and a dashboard that allows users to keep track of how much time they have spent on the platforms.

"We want the time people spend on Instagram and Facebook to be intentional, positive and inspiring," the statement said.

"Our hope is that these tools give people more control over the time they spend on our platforms and also foster conversations between parents and teens about the online habits that are right for them," it added.

Facebook, once said that it was introducing a daily reminder, whereby users are notified when they reach the time limit they set for themselves to spend on the app. It is also designing an option to deactivate notifications on smartphones.

Facebook , recent months have introduced a thread of changes to its content, including a major plan earlier this year to update its newsfeed to highlight posts from friends and family.

In 2017, Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg had announced the changes, as his firm required to respond to allegation that it encourages addiction to its platform.

Earlier this year, Zuckerberg said: "In 2018, we're focused on making sure Facebook isn't just fun to use, but also good for people's well-being and for society."

Since the changes were made, viral videos have seen a considerable drop in reach and 5 percent drop in time spent on Facebook was noticed in the last quarter of 2017.
