Delhi : Millions of people rely on Google Drive as their go-to programme for cloud-based document, photo, video, and WhatsApp conversation backup storage. On the Google Support forum, a few users have reported that their files have vanished.

Many said that despite Google's best efforts to retrieve their data, their files disappeared and were never seen again. Although the exact source of the problem is yet unknown, the tech giant claimed that Google Drive for Desktop (v84.0.0.0 – 84.0.4.0) was the sole applicability of the issue.

In the meanwhile, Google also provided some guidelines on what not to do. The tech giant advises users against moving or deleting the app data folder, which is located under "~/Library/Application Support/Google/DriveFS" on macOS and "%USERPROFILE%AppDataLocalGoogleDriveFS" on Windows, as well as against clicking the "Disconnect Account" button on the desktop version of the app.

Google suggests making a duplicate of the app data folder if you have enough space on your storage device. Furthermore, it is unknown whether or not the issue of missing files will be resolved, as well as what created the problem in the first place.

Recently, the internet giant revamped Google Drive's layout on the web, which now boasts a new homepage named 'Home'. The new homepage aligns the UI with Google's Material Design 3 standards, making it easier for users to discover the files they need.
