Delhi : Nearly every month, WhatsApp updates its desktop, mobile, and tablet applications. The platform, which is owned by meta, regularly delivers upgrades that improve user experience and privacy by releasing security patches and new features. WhatsApp finally made the long-awaited picture-in-picture feature available to iOS users in its most recent version, which was launched this month. Now that WhatsApp video calls may be made while using other apps, PiP mode allows users to do so.

Users will be able to multitask during a WhatsApp video call without the video pausing, according to the feature description of WhatsApp version 23.3.77 in iOS. PiP mode is an iOS feature that allows users to view multiple windows at once.

Notably, WhatsApp for Android already has a feature called PiP mode that is not new. However, WhatsApp has been developing PiP mode for iOS users since last year and even began testing it in December.

How the iOS picture-in-picture mode operates

If you close the WhatsApp app while a video call is in progress, the PiP mode will be activated automatically. Additionally, WhatsApp users can temporarily halt or disable video call views if they so choose. To enable all necessary options, upgrade WhatsApp or check the app permission in Settings if the PiP mode doesn't launch.

New WhatsApp functionality for iPhone

In addition to PiP mode, WhatsApp has added a few new capabilities for iOS users.

  • Document captions: Before distributing documents to other users, WhatsApp now lets users add subtitles. Users will soon be able to add captions to documents before sharing them to their contacts in private or group conversations, much like they can with photographs, videos, and GIFs.
  • Support for longer subject and group description lengths: Users can now add longer subject or group description lengths to explain the group's objectives. The group description on WhatsApp will now have 2048 characters instead of the previous 512.
  • Customized avatars: Just like Facebook and Instagram, Meta is now allowing users to design a custom avatar for the network. To personalise their profile picture on WhatsApp, users can create an avatar. They can also build sticker packs to spice up their conversations.

Please be aware that these features, including PiP, will roll out over the next few weeks and that it may take some time for everyone to receive them. Wait a few days before downloading the new update if you haven't yet gotten it.
