Installation of AI-based cameras planned for Mahakumbh in Prayagraj

Delhi : Through 'AI-based' cameras put at key spots across the city, Indian Railways, in collaboration with Smart City Project, will keep a tight eye on devotees visiting the city for Mahakumbh in 2025. This was determined at a meeting on Monday evening, chaired by the Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Prayagraj division, to discuss Mahakumbh 2025 preparations.

The meeting was attended by the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Smart City Project, Chandra Mohan Garg, who is also the Municipal Commissioner. The two authorities, together with their expert teams, discussed working together in Mahakumbh 2025.

The civil and railway administrations are preparing to communicate information more quickly. It was planned to erect large-sized LED display boards at various locations to tell devotees about important information, live feed of trains, Mela area, and other city locations. The artificial intelligence-based cameras, which will also be deployed at all of the city's train terminals, would aid in tracking the movement of crores of worshippers, allowing for thorough evaluation and forecasting.

In addition, cameras will play a crucial part in the security of the worshippers. Himanshu Badoni, the DRM, stated during the meeting that high-end technology will be employed to ensure the success of the Mahakumbh.

"We have requested that railway officials provide us with a list of locations where such high-end cameras can be installed so that they can be used not only to monitor the movement of devotees but also to keep an eye out for any unscrupulous elements," Garg added.

Sanjay Singh, additional DRM (administration), stated that a team will seek to deploy artificial intelligence cameras across the city, with the initial phase involving the installation of such cameras at nine stations.
